Two projects to improve safety and efficiency are expected to start in July at Cobb County International Airport.

Cobb commissioners earlier this month approved a $3.7 million contract with Woodstock-based Astra Group Inc. for rehabilitation of the airport’s north apron, or the area between the hangars and the runway, reports Marietta Daily Journal.

A $780,000 contract with Texas-based Navcon, which was also approved by commissioners, will provide for the installation of an approach lighting system aimed at aiding pilots landing at the airport, the paper adds.

State and federal funding will cover the majority of the costs, with the remainder coming from those who use the airport, airport manager Karl Von Hagel told the MDJ.
